In the current special exhibition "International Women Exhibition" at the Long Museum, French-American artist Louise Bourgeois' sculpture "The Spider" is a highlight of this exhibition. Using steel as a material, Bourgeois created the image of an attacking giant spider with razor-sharp legs. At first glance, this work may arouse fear, but the artist said that the spider has another meaning: she regards the spider as a dexterous weaver and a motherly guardian, just like she is both the mother of her child and a weaver. Characters such as cautiousness, calmness, smartness, patience, dexterity and low-key are indispensable to her as a mother. 

The workshop explores the following questions: 

Spiders are a common companion in our lives,

They may be in the corner, in the corridor, in the garden...

Its footprints are spreaded in the every corner of life.

How can spiders have a strong relationship with the role of a mother?

This workshop allows children to "DIY" a spider friend. Long Museum has prepared the following materials: safety wire, ultra-light clay, etc. It also invites the supervisor of Tonghui (Artspire) to teach children about the world-renowned female artist Louise Bourgeois and the stories behind her works.
