At the beginning of the twentieth century, artists moved away from the reproductive art of depicting facts and began to create non-figurative art. The Western tradition of realistic painting began to falter and artistic expression became increasingly abstract, starting with Cubism, and a plethora of schools of art and abstract styles emerged, changing the viewing experience and bringing new horizons to life.
